About

James Walmesley graduated from The Surrey Institute Of Art And Design University College in 2001 with a BA(Hons) Animation and went to work in a pub. Fearing that his skills as an illustrator and animator were being somewhat overlooked (no-one likes a cartoon robot drawn in their Guinness foam, apparently) he upped sticks to Sheffield, and got a job in a wine bar. Realising his second mistake, he finally set out to work full time as a Freelance Illustrator.

Specialising in Educational and Children’s illustration, James has produced work for Pearson-Longman, Language Centre Publications, St Helen’s council, Folens, Brilliant Publications and Harper Collins, to name but a few. However, his talents are not solely restricted to the kiddies, and he has produced artwork for flyers and magazine articles for grown-up adult people.

James uses a combination of media, with traditional pencil sketches being fleshed out with inks, and then scanned and coloured digitally. Sometimes he even goes old skool, and busts out the coloured pencils for that personal touch.
